guidelines

submitting

• be accurate. the title is the pitch. if the link is behind a paywall, or the post is the author congratulating themselves, say so in the title.
• no search engine bait, no content farms, no listicles engineered for a query, no "10 reasons you will love X".
• no self-submission spam. link your own writing if it is interesting; do not submit it six times from six accounts.
• no politics, no drama, no threads whose only purpose is a fight.
• no paywalled or pirate links when a free version exists.
• tag it honestly. a unix post that is really a vendor announcement should be tagged for the vendor.

commenting

• argue with the argument, not the person.
• quote what you are answering with > at the start of a line, then say the thing.
• *emphasis*, **strong** and `code` work. so do bare links and [text](url).
• no markdown tables, no headings, no images. this is a terminal.
• if you have nothing to add, do not add nothing.

voting

vote up for things you want more people to read, not for things you agree with. one account, one vote, no self-votes. a flag is the only moderator tool and it is not anonymous.

moderation

administrators can mark a submission dead or hidden, kill a comment, disable an account, re-queue an account for review, or ban it outright. disabling or banning an account ends its sessions at once. the last administrator account cannot be disabled, banned or demoted, because then nobody could undo it.
